Race Abandoned

There was a disappointing start to the sailing season as all races at Easter and Spring Bank Holiday weekends had to be abandoned due to strong winds and very heavy seas.

Surfing at Traeth

The huge rollers which prevented sailing provided interesting conditions for the surfing experts. Children and adults alike had great fun. This is the first time many of us had seen surfers standing on their boards in Traeth.

Successful Training Week

There was no sailing on the first day of the Youth Training Week due to heavy seas giving extremely difficult launching conditions. Some very interesting (sailing) videos were used instead as training aids. However the weather steadily improved with the wind dropping (good practice for light airs) and the sun beaming down.

21 Toppers and 5 lasers enjoyed four days intensive coaching under the watchful eyes of Dave Woodhead, Bleddyn Môn, and David Griffiths. They were then able to try out their new tactics and expertise in the Trophy races held in the afternoons.

Topper Traveller and Youth Open Meeting

The training week culminated in a 2 day Open Meeting where Toppers, Oppies and Lasers battled it out in light, rather fickle winds. Race Officer Steve Norris managed to fit in six races over the two days. He was ably supported by the usual team of willing volunteers manning the patrol boats, shore line and galley. Our thanks to Steve and all his helpers.
