The 43rd Anglesey Offshore Dinghy Race was sailed under the burgee of Red Wharf Bay Sailing and Watersports Club on Sunday 3rd August.
This unique 14 mile race has featured in the recently published list of races that one must do and this year’s event lived up to its billing. The sun and a brisk SW 3-4 wind greeted the 41 starters at Beaumaris. The competitors enjoyed a run to Puffin Sound in the bright sunshine as the asymmetrics planed through waters flanked by the magnificent scenery of the Menai Straits. This was followed by a testing beat to the turning mark of Benllech. The reach that followed to Moelfre was described as the sail of the season by several competitors.
The catamaran fleet enjoyed 2 further screaming reaches and another tough beat back across Red Wharf Bay as they completed their extended course before all boats finished at Traeth Bychan, the home of RWBSWC.
P Murray’s B14 and J Douglas’ Dart 18 were winners in their respective races.
The Club would like to thank their sponsors, Robinsons Brewery and Rain & Sun of Southampton for their support plus the band of volunteers who made the event possible.
